No, and yes. It depends which of two very different skills you mean, and almost every page that answers this question quietly swaps one for the other.
You can memorise the chart in a day. All 26 letters and all 10 digits, well
enough to look at -... .. -- .- .-.. and work out that it says BIMAL. That is
a genuine day's work and it is worth doing.
You cannot learn to copy Morse by ear in a day. Copying by ear means hearing
-.. and knowing it is D without thinking, at the speed a real operator sends.
That is a reflex, not a fact, and reflexes are built by repetition over weeks.
Anyone promising the one-day version of that is selling you the chart and
calling it fluency.

First, the notation
Morse is written with two marks: a dot and a dash. Operators say them aloud as "dit" and "dah", because that is closer to what they sound like.
Letters are separated by a single space. Words are separated by a slash. So
.... .. / - .... . .-. . is HI THERE. That convention holds for every code
string here, and it is the one that survives copy and paste, which is what
most readers do with a Morse string.
One rule underneath all of it: a dash is exactly three times as long as a dot. Not "a bit longer". Exactly three. That ratio is the whole reason Morse is readable by ear at any speed.
Three skills wearing one name
"Learn Morse code" hides three separate abilities that take wildly different amounts of time.

Reading and sending are recall problems. You are allowed to pause, think, and check. Copying by ear is a reaction problem, and reactions cannot be crammed.
That is the honest split. The rest of this is what a day genuinely buys you, and what it does not.
What one honest day buys you
By the end of a focused day (perhaps three hours of work, broken up, not three hours straight) you can reasonably expect to:
- Recall most of the 26 letters from the written code, with a few stubborn ones.
- Recall all 10 digits, because they follow a pattern rather than 10 shapes.
- Write your own name in Morse without looking anything up.
- Send SOS with a torch or a tapped finger and get the spacing right.
- Decode a short written message on paper in a minute or two.
- Recognise two or three characters by ear, at full speed, reliably.
What you cannot expect: to hear a sentence and write it down. Not that day, not that week. Say it out loud now so you are not disappointed later.
The one-day plan
Seven blocks. Take a break between each one: spacing the sessions out across the day is doing real work, not wasting time.
Block 1: the notation (10 minutes)
Dot, dash, dash is three dots long, space between letters, slash between words, the whole grammar. Read the section above twice and move on.
Block 2: nine letters and a digit that cost almost nothing (20 minutes)
Start with the characters made of one repeated element. There is nothing to memorise except how many.

E and T are one element each. I and M are two of the same. S and O are three.
H is four dots, and 5 is five. A .- and N -. are the two-element mix, and
they are opposites of each other, which is the trick for the next block.
Ten characters in twenty minutes, and three of them are the most common letters in English.
Block 3: the mirror pairs (30 minutes)
Six pairs of letters are each other backwards. Learn one, get the other free.

Twelve letters from six facts. Read each pair aloud as dits and dahs, forwards then backwards, until the reversal feels automatic.
Block 4: the palindromes and the three leftovers (25 minutes)
Eleven letters read the same in both directions, so there is no order to get wrong:

You already know seven of those from block 2. That leaves four new ones, plus exactly three letters that fit no pattern at all:

Three awkward letters out of 26 is a good deal. Note that C is K -.- with a
dot added, and Z is M -- followed by I ... J is the only letter that is one
dot followed by three dashes.
Six mirror pairs, eleven palindromes, three leftovers: the entire alphabet, and the reason the full Morse alphabet chart is far less to learn than it looks.
Block 5: the digits (10 minutes)
Every digit is five elements long, and the pattern does the memorising for you.

For 1 to 5, count the leading dots: that is the digit, and dashes fill the rest. For 6 to 0, count the leading dashes and add five. Ten characters, one rule. Numbers and punctuation has the rest, including the 16 punctuation marks in the standard: skip those today.
Block 6: write something real (30 minutes)
Write your own name. Then a short message. Then check it character by character against the chart, not by feel.

Now decode these without looking:

The answers are MEET ME and WELL DONE. If you got both, block 6 worked. Writing your name in Morse goes deeper on the letters people trip over.
Block 7: send it, and start the ear (45 minutes)
Send what you wrote. A torch, a knuckle on a table, a pen clicking: the medium does not matter, the ratio does. Hold the light on three times as long for a dash as for a dot. Leave one dot of darkness between elements, three between letters, seven between words. Practical detail is in sending Morse with a phone flashlight and tapping and vibration.
Then send SOS, which is worth getting right:

That is one unbroken prosign: three dots, three dashes, three dots, with no letter gaps inside it. It is not the letters S, O and S sent separately. And it does not stand for "Save Our Souls"; that is a backronym invented afterwards. The pattern was chosen because it is unmistakable and easy to send. There is more in SOS in Morse code.
Finish the day with ten minutes of listening to just two characters, at full speed, over and over. Not slow. Full speed. Those ten minutes are the start of the skill that takes weeks, and starting it today is the only part of the plan with a deadline.
Why the ear is the slow part
Here is the arithmetic, because this is where "learn it fast" advice usually goes vague.
One dot is one unit. Everything else is measured against it.

Speed is measured in words per minute against the reference word PARIS, which including the word gap after it is exactly 50 units long. From that:
Dot length in seconds = 1.2 ÷ WPM.

At 20 words per minute, the letter H is over in 420 milliseconds. Q --.- is
13 units, so 780 ms. The digit 0 ----- is 19 units, so 1,140 ms: the longest
of the 26 letters and 10 digits.
Read those numbers again. At real sending speed every letter is over in well under a second. There is no time to count dots, look anything up, or translate a picture in your head. The only thing fast enough is recognising the sound of the whole character as one shape, the way you recognise a spoken word without spelling it.
Building that recognition for 36 characters is what takes weeks. It is not hard work — 15 to 20 minutes a day is plenty — but it is repetition, and repetition cannot be compressed into an afternoon. Koch and Farnsworth are not two options
People looking for a shortcut usually find these two names and try to pick one. They are not alternatives. They change different variables, and they combine.

Koch is an ordering and progression method: two characters at full speed, then a third once you are copying at 90%, and so on. The character speed never drops. Farnsworth stretches the silence between characters so you hear each one at its proper rhythm while still having time to think.
Using Koch's ordering with Farnsworth's spacing is a normal, sensible pairing. Asking "Koch or Farnsworth" is asking the wrong question, and the comparison in full explains why.

I am deliberately not putting dates next to these. Your progress depends on how often you practise, not on how many days have passed, and a promised schedule you miss is a good reason to quit.

Common mistakes on day one
Learning the code as pictures. If you memorise the shape -... for B, you
have learned something you will have to unlearn the moment sound is involved.
Say every character aloud as dits and dahs from the first minute, so the memory
you build is auditory.
Counting dots. Counting works on paper and fails at any real speed. The numbers above are why. Treat counting as a scaffold you remove on day two.
Word mnemonics. "Dah-di-dah-dit is Coca-Cola" gets you through the afternoon and then sits between your ear and the character forever. Skip them.
Practising at very slow character speed. Slowing the characters themselves down teaches your brain to count elements. Slow the gaps instead — that is exactly what Farnsworth spacing is for.
Trying to learn all 26 by ear at once. Two characters. Then three. The chart can be learned in bulk; the ear cannot.
Treating SOS as three letters. It is one unbroken prosign, ...---..., sent
with no gaps inside it.
Writing Morse with bullets or dashes from a word processor. A middot or an em dash looks correct and breaks the moment someone copies it into a translator. Plain full stops and hyphens only.
Questions people ask
Can you learn Morse code in a day?
You can learn the written chart in a day — all 26 letters and 10 digits — and send simple messages slowly. You cannot learn to copy Morse by ear in a day. Those are two different skills and only one of them fits in an afternoon.
How long does it actually take to learn Morse code?
Copying by ear takes weeks of daily practice, and how many weeks depends entirely on how consistently you practise. Short daily sessions beat long weekend ones. Anyone quoting you a fixed number of days is guessing.
What is the fastest way to learn Morse code?
Learn characters as sounds from the very first session, at full speed, adding one at a time — that is the Koch approach — and stretch the gaps between characters while you are slow, which is Farnsworth spacing. Practise every day for a short time rather than once a week for a long time.
Is Morse code hard to learn?
The code itself is small and heavily patterned: six mirror pairs, eleven palindromes, three odd letters, and ten digits built from one rule. The hard part is not the information, it is turning it into a reflex.
Should I learn the letters in alphabetical order?
No. Alphabetical order has nothing to do with how the code is built or how often letters appear. Start with the shortest and most common characters, or follow a Koch sequence, and add one at a time.
Can I learn Morse code without sound?
You can learn to read and write it silently, and that is useful for signalling with light, taps or vibration. But if you ever want to receive Morse from a radio or a beeping device, the sound work has to happen eventually, and starting with sight makes it harder later, not easier.
What speed should I start at?

Not on day one. The standard defines 16 punctuation marks, and you can add them
